Laura Kiniry is a San Francisco-based freelance writer specializing in travel, food, and the great outdoors. A former Via intern, she's currently a travel correspondent for Smithsonianmag.com, and writes for Conde Nast Traveler, BBCTravel.com, Atlas Obscura, and various AAA publications, among others. As a railway enthusiast, she's traveled on trains throughout the U.S., Australia, Southeast Asia, South America, and Europe, and is currently planning a trip aboard Vietnam's Reunification Express. Kiniry's first-ever published story, in 2004, was a piece about Thailand train travel for the International Railway Traveler.
